Life in the Coffeevillage
Small colonies of farmers live together in a mosaïc of huts around the coffee farms. At the surface seemingly just a small alley often withholds a different civilization where everybody lives, breaths and cultivates coffee. In their spare time, younger generations of coffeefarmers tend to gather on a daily base for what is called the game Bola Adil, a very ancient game requiring excellent aim and estimation skills. Here the pursuit of cultural heritage manifests itself among youth. For more information visit here: http://www.talesofcoffee.com/
It takes a rough Road to good Coffee
Finding the most reputable and high quality coffee regions is where it starts for us, but we go beyond that. rather than choosing the most common coffee area in that region, we find out which specific coffeebeans and farms are upper class in that specific coffee region as well. We inform ourselves among the locals to distnguish the better and often more rare coffee. Since the supply of this specialty coffee is often not for commercial purposes and these farms stay relatively small, we come up with a product that is limited in supply and place it in our unique collection of other Indonesian specialty coffees. If it does not take us extremely rough roads, we seriously doubt the distinguished character of the coffee. One hard to get cup of absolute specialty coffee. We do not go for less. Methods: Traditional craftmanship combined with new harvesting and processing techniques
Originally in the belief of respecting nature's ways, All of the involved farms have been looking up to create as much environmental harmony as possible throughout their crops, avoiding any pesticides and other "non organical" products. The truth is, some of these farms are so small and/ or remote that they do not even have access to costly chemicals and damaging new-world harvest technologies. While we do our very best to create a sustainable future for this farms, - among others improving their access to tools and techniques and expandig both in size and quality -parallel with improving the lives of the farmers, we will keep the pesticides out, keeping the organic in. Next to aiming towards a first class quality coffee, we are dedicated to enhance the beneficial implications of coffee for body and well-being throughout all of our processes. From planting the seeds to roasting the beans. Keeping some of the Century old traditional methods for harvesting and processing alive, we implement certain new and improved techniques from the contemporary science around specialty coffee ( such as Bean Selection, Bean conservation methods, et cetera ) to create the ultimate cup of organic specialty coffee. A rich and full cup of the finest Indo Single Origin, with hints of ancient craftmanship & a long finish of Tropical Island Breeze. For more information visit here: http://www.talesofcoffee.com/
From Farmer to Cup
It’s true, getting to each and every coffeefarm yourself to make the agreements is not the easiest nor most efficient way. But let us tell you that it pays off, on many levels that is. Traveling through the Indonesian Coffee Islands, from Jungle to open highlands, and from outstretched valleys to rough volcanoes, we searched and found farmer communities who were willing to work together on this project. Barely having a matras, eating simple, fresh homegrown food, often without any connection to the outside world except for some lost tourist every few weeks, Indonesia and its Island people have left a great impression on our way of seeing things. Experiencing the real deal from early dawn to dust, we could not have been hosted more hospital and in better conditions than on these coffee islands and therefore the whole trip was truly authentic. Brave people, strong people, good people.
Even if you had a big plan, like us, of going fair trade and durable all the way upon arrival, by the time you would leave, you'd have a vision and true ambition of contributing the best you can to their whole village and everybody in it. Today we may say we work together directly with farmer communities at all of the islands involved while having a sustainable and customized future plan for all of them. From former to Cup, we skip the middleman, and we get a lot more out of it in every sense of the word. For more information visit here: http://www.talesofcoffee.com/
